RESEARCHPUBLICATIONS Amina Anthropological Resources Association
is currently involved with producing the book A Decade of Research
in Bird Cove-Plum Point: Contributions to the Human and Natural History
of Newfoundland’s
Northern Peninsula. This treatise is an interdisciplinary work,
which highlights the most important discoveries, and resulting issues,
based on ten years of research in the area. Volume contributors explore
such topics as: the daily rituals of the Maritime Archaic Indians based
on one of the few intact Archaic habitation sites on the island; the
length and reasons for the occupation of Newfoundland by its first
Paleoeskimo cultures; Newfoundland and Labrador Recent Indian relations;
and the early interaction of Basque fisherman and aboriginal people.
Additional subjects include geology, botany, and conservation as well
as community perspectives on the local benefits of academic research. The year 2007 will be the tenth anniversary of the Bird Cove-Plum
Point archaeology project and it is intended that the release of this
publication will coincide with that milestone. The public reception
of the book is important since the Bird Cove-Plum Point archaeology
project was borne out of community effort to begin a tourism venture
that would offset economic disaster after the cod fishery collapse.
Up to $5000 in financial assistance is currently available for publishing this
book courtesy of Amina Anthropological Resources Association. One of
the greatest accomplishments of this celebratory volume will be its
ability to provide insights into research questions that previously
were impossible to tackle without the new data gathered by this project. This book was conceived by Latonia Hartery, director of the Bird Cove-Plum Point Archaeology project. It is being co-edited with Steven Cox. See below for a Table Of Contents. Also see Current Projects and Productions. A
